Coder Lounge - April 2014

John Ennew
Technical Director

Coder Lounge is Deeson Online's monthly voyage into the unknown where we discuss exciting dev, have angry debates, fix broken things, eat pizza and contribute back to the Drupal community.

This week...

Mike worked on Entity Reference View Widget which, if you have not seen it before, is a pretty awesome module. It provides a new widget for entity reference which allows a full view to pop up in a model so you can search for and select entities to reference.

Mike's patch improves the usability of the tool, allowing one-click additions of each entity needing to be referenced.

Pete worked on the Password Policy module. This module ensures your company's password policy is applied when choosing a password for a Drupal site.

John and Dan worked on the integration between Media module and CKEditor (via WYSIWYG).

Media is another great module which categorises and stores all media uploaded to the site in a neat library which means media can be searched for, referenced and reused.

We all worked on a number of bugs and also read and reviewed some patches:

Maintaining a module

During pizza, we discussed the project processes on Drupal.org and how to become a maintainer of a module.

The usual process is to ask on the issue queue. If the module is seeking a co-maintainer they will likely respond quickly.

Some maintainers like to ensure you are committed first by asking you to spend a couple of weeks clearing the issue queue, answering questions and submitting patches.

Others, lean back their heads, shout "THANK THE STARS!" and add you right away before removing themselves from the project and running as fast as they can.

Cosmic, man

Later in the evening, Steve wondered how the planets formed all on the same plane. (The blog image is for you Steve...)
