Coder Lounge - February 2014

John Ennew
Technical Director

Coder Lounge is our monthly tech hack meet up where the Deeson dev team work late into the night, eating take-a-way, talking dev and inspiring each other with our own personal awesomeness.

We had a couple of talks planned for the weekend's DrupalCamp in London some some of the discussion was about the approaches there and fine tuning the presentations.

Chris is looking for the full project commit status on his D.O profile and submitted the following Organic Groups enhancement module: OG Admin Block. This module creates a block, which displays a list of links to admin tasks for an OG group, for an OG group administrator. The OG context must be set to the group you want the links to relate to on the page(s) the block is displayed. To review Chris' work and help him get that status flag, check out the submission to the project issue queue here: https://drupal.org/node/2206031

Annika and Dan continued their work improving the usage of Media module. Dan looked at the integration between media and the CKeditor module and Annika contributed to the Manual Crop module. Media module promises a lot and the sooner its bugs are ironed out and full release is available the better for everyone in Drupal!

Pete has a pretty awesome patch in for features. When working in a disciplined local development team, when a feature is updated by one member, all the rest of the team needs the update. The best way of supplying this is via update hooks. The patch to features provides you the code you need to copy and paste into your feature's install file when you update the feature which helps speed up integration with everyone else. Pete also supplied token support to the leaflet mapping module.

I think it was Confucius who said, "Coding cannot be done without cake" - Battenburg was provided this time but was seen as a lesser option to last month's cheese cake - the developer's dessert of choice (this outraged Pete). Adam, our newest member of the team and long time PHP developer had his first go on the Drupal 8 learning ladder by installing Drupal 8. When asked for a quote about about Coder Lounge he said "While it is the early days of my Drupal journey I found the teams knowledge of Drupal and commitment to the community inspiring". When asked for a quote about his first experience of Drupal 8 he said "It's nothing like Drupal 7 and I don't know Symfony. The installer looks nice"
