The future of Digibury

Tim Deeson
Director

This month marks almost four years of Digibury, our monthly Kent meetup on the second Wednesday of the month. We’ve benefitted from the generosity of so many speakers sharing their time, expertise and (often half finished) technology projects.

They’ve given us a glimpse into their worlds of art, science, manufacturing, perfumery, design and programming to name just a few. We now have a thriving community of almost 500 people who have signed up and participated in our monthly Digibury events.

The meetup also gave us a platform to launch Digibury Weekender, a one day event that allowed us to bring in speakers from further afield to share what they’re doing and importantly - why they’re doing it.

We feel that we’ve achieved what we initially set out to do.

We wanted to give Kent a stage to showcase all the amazing things that are happening right here. And we wanted to connect those people with each other so that they can do things that are even more amazing together.

Thank you to everyone who has made that possible.

What next?

We think it’s time to mix it up and do things differently and we’re going to pause our monthly events while we work that out.

We’d love to hear your ideas about where to go next, particularly if you want to be involved in making that happen.

Our goals for Digibury are simple -  enabling passionate people to share knowledge and ideas freely.

Possibilities include (but are definitely not limited to):

  • an individual or group curating it for a year, possibly with sponsorship from us
  • a change of format and/or venue and/or frequency

So if you’re up for taking Digibury forward in the future, now’s your chance.

We’d love to hear your proposals about how it could work and what role you’d take as an individual/group and what support you’d need from Deeson.

We’d like to start 2016 with a better idea of how Digibury might be in the future so please make sure you get in touch with us by 31st December.

If you’d like to ask any questions to help you with this, just drop us a line at [email protected].
